ELLIPAL X Card: FAQ Guide

The ELLIPAL X Card is our latest cold wallet innovation—a simple and secure crypto hardware wallet designed for daily transactions.

To help you get the most out of your X Card, we’ve compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions here.

Functionality

Can I manage multiple wallets with one X Card?

Each X Card supports one wallet. If you need to manage multiple wallets, we recommend the ELLIPAL Titan 2.0 , which allows up to five mnemonic wallets and five private key wallets.

What wallet import methods does the X Card support?

Currently, only seed phrase imports are supported.

Does the X Card support Passphrases?

Yes. If your wallet includes a Passphrase, simply enable this feature in the Starter device settings before importing your wallet.

How many copies of the same wallet can I make with the X Card?

You can duplicate a wallet to up to 10 additional X Cards during creation or recovery, allowing for flexible backup options.

What happens to wallet history in the app if I reset my X Card?

If you reset your X Card and create a new wallet on it, the previous wallet account will be automatically deleted from your app when you link the card to the app again.
If you have multiple X Cards and only want to reset one, you can go to the wallet settings > Connected X Cards > and delete the corresponding card number. This way, when you link the reset card to the app, it will not affect the old account.

Can I use the X Card and Titan wallet together?

Yes. If both devices are tied to the same wallet address, the app automatically merges them into one account. You can switch between devices for signing based on your needs.

Does the X Card support the same networks as the Titan wallet?

It supports most of the same networks, but with a few exceptions. The following are not supported on the X Card:

  • Non-BIP44 format XRP addresses

  • Kusama (KSM)

  • Polkadot (DOT)
Newly supported networks will be clearly listed in our updates, including whether they're compatible with the X Card.

Why is the asset balance different between the X Card and Titan after importing the same mnemonic?

Because supported networks vary slightly between the two devices, your total visible balance may differ. If the X Card doesn’t support a certain network, those assets won't appear. We recommend using the Titan wallet to manage and transfer such assets.

Security Design

What happens if I lose my X Card—can someone steal my funds?

Not without your PIN.

  • PIN-protected : A correct PIN is required to access the wallet.

  • Auto self-destruct : After 10 incorrect attempts, the card wipes all data.

  • Tip : If the card is lost, recover your wallet using your seed phrase immediately, create a new wallet, and transfer the funds from the original account to the new one.

If I lose or damage my phone, can I still access my wallet?

Absolutely. Just download the ELLIPAL App on any other device and reconnect your X Card. Your wallet remains fully accessible.

Why do I need the Starter to create or recover a wallet?

The ELLIPAL Starter is purpose-built for completely offline wallet setup . It eliminates all connectivity risks and ensures your private keys and seed phrases are never exposed to the internet or external devices.

How does the Starter ensure secure wallet creation and recovery?

The X Card Starter is designed with no Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or USB data ports, ensuring it cannot connect to any networks. Its charging port is power-only. This guarantees air-gapped security during wallet creation and recovery, with all setup operations occurring in a fully offline environment. Additionally, the device includes built-in protections that permanently disable it if tampered with.

Does duplicating an X Card reduce its security?

Not at all. Every duplicated card is encrypted and stores private keys in a secure chip , similar to a digital vault. Even if someone has both the original and the duplicate, they cannot extract your keys.

Is the X Card protected against counterfeit or tampering?

Yes. Each X Card contains a unique encrypted ID that is verified by the app. Only genuine cards sold by ELLIPAL will be recognized and allowed to connect—fake cards are blocked.

Can the X Card be hacked through NFC?

No. The X Card is read-only via NFC and doesn’t accept incoming data. All communication between the card and the app is encrypted , and no private key information is ever transmitted. Even if the signal is intercepted, it’s useless to attackers.

Usage Tips

Do I need to write down my seed phrase?

That’s up to you.

You can securely back up your seed phrases on the ELLIPAL Seed Phrase Steel or purchase multiple X Cards for backup. Up to 11 total cards (1 original + 10 backups) can be created at once. The more you create, the lower the risk of total data loss.

What should I do if my phone sometimes fails to scan the X Card?

  • Align the chip side of the card with the phone’s NFC zone (typically around the camera or center back).

  • Hold it still until the confirmation sound plays.

  • Avoid thick phone cases or misalignment. If needed, check your phone’s NFC settings to locate the exact scan area.

Is the X Card waterproof and durable?

The X Card is splash-resistant , built to withstand brief exposure to rain or sweat.

  • However, it's not designed for submersion. Wipe it dry after use and avoid soaking it.

  • For best results, use a protective sleeve and store the card flat.

  • Its durability meets international standards used for bank cards, though it’s slightly less flexible.
